In the summer of 2015, the YMCA of Pawtucket partnered with Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, Blackstone Valley Health Care Inc., and the City of Central Falls to launch the country’s inaugural Neighborhood Health Station. The organizations created the program to deliver quality health care in the community and offer residents a space where they could unite to establish and practice healthy habits.
According to the founding partners, the two-month initiative was intended to transform health care delivery, foster economic development, and build community. The program gave Central Falls residents access to a wide range of complimentary fitness activities, such as Aqua-Fit and Zumba group exercise classes, at both the Family Y in Pawtucket and the MacColl Y in Lincoln.
